Data rights request
This page explains how a reader can ask Genese about personal information connected with a contact message or technical interaction. It is current for 5 October 2026 and applies to visitors of this English-language editorial resource, including readers based in Indonesia and elsewhere.
1. Access
Ask what personal information Genese holds about your request and how it is used. A typical access request is answered with a short written summary describing the message content, the date it was received, and which address it was sent to, rather than a raw data export.
2. Correction
Tell us which contact detail or message context is inaccurate and provide the replacement. This is most often used when a reply address was mistyped or when a reader wants a previous message updated with corrected contact details before a follow-up response is sent.
3. Deletion
You may ask that correspondence be deleted where retention is not required for a legitimate documented purpose, such as an open correction review or a security investigation already in progress.
4. Restriction
Ask us to pause use while a question about accuracy, purpose or lawful basis is reviewed, for example if you believe a message was logged under the wrong category.
5. Objection
You may object to optional measurement processing or other uses that depend on a balancing assessment, such as aggregate analytics that are not strictly necessary to operate the site.
6. Verification
We may request reasonable details to confirm that a request comes from the person concerned, typically limited to confirming the email address used in the original message.
7. Time limit
We aim to acknowledge requests within seven days and answer within 30 days, with notice if an extension is necessary due to the complexity of the request.
8. Exceptions
Some logs may be retained for security or legal reasons, and deletion may not be immediate from backups, which are typically rotated out within 90 days under our standard retention schedule.
9. No profiling
Genese does not intentionally create medical or advertising profiles from editorial reading behaviour, and does not sell personal information to third parties.
10. Contact
Send a request through contact.php or call (021) 7586-9172 at the Jakarta address published on this site.
11. Revision log

What to include in a request
- The email address or contact method originally used, so we can locate the relevant message.
- A short, specific description of which right you wish to exercise.
- Any supporting detail that helps us verify the request without asking for unnecessary personal information.
- A preferred reply address if it differs from the one used in the original message.
A note on scope
"A data rights request works best when it is specific. The more precisely a reader describes what they are asking for, the faster we can respond."
If a request is unclear, our usual practice is to ask one clarifying question before beginning the review, rather than guessing at intent.
